Kiosk Mode

We developed our Kiosk mode solution in response to a customer requirement to administer state-wide, computer-based tests in schools. Kiosk mode is designed to be used in countrywide exams with a wide range of computers that need to be locked down to prevent any possible cheating during the exam.

Typically, schools and assessment centres have a range of computers running different operating systems, all which need to work correctly for assessment purposes. Using Kiosk Mode, any computer lab can be turned into a secure exam centre.

The Learnosity Kiosk Mode works with Windows and Mac computers to lock out every other programme during the test. This stops candidates being able to access features on that computer that may give them an advantage during the exam. We believe that we are the only company that offers a Kiosk Mode solution for both Windows and Mac computers. 

Features for Mac 

  • Full screen mode: Assessment is on the primary screen. It goes to full screen and locks up all other screens.
  • Key window always kept on top of other windows.
  • Spotlight menu is disabled.
  • Dock is made unavailable.
  • Menu Bar is made unavailable.
  • All menu items are disabled.
  • Cmd+Tab UI is disabled.
  • All Exposé functionality is also disabled.
  • Cmd+Opt+Esc panel is disabled.
  • Restart/Log Out options are disabled.
  • Application "Hide" menu item is disabled.
  • The transparent appearance of the menu bar is disabled.
  • Cleans up the system pasteboard when the application starts.
  • Compliant with all Mac systems since October 2007, i.e., OSX 10.5 and above.

Features for Windows

  • Full screen mode: Assessment is on the primary screen.  It goes to full screen and locks up all other screens.
  • Key window always kept on top of other windows.
  • Disables the special Windows keys: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Ctrl+F4, Ctrl+Esc, Alt+Tab, Alt+Esc, PrtScr and Alt+PrtScr.
  • Sentry mode: Blocks a list of unwanted applications from running, this prevents users from running applications which could compromise the security of the system.
  • Disables system sticky keys (i.e., pressing the SHIFT key 5 times).
  • Windows Task Manager is disabled.
  • Restart/Log Out options are disabled.
  • System clipboard is cleaned up when the application starts.
  • Compliant with all Windows systems since October 2001, i.e., Windows XP and above.
