Our customers have given us some great insights into their experiences using Learnosity Voice.
The Learning Federation in Australia undertook a language learning project using Learnosity Voice and the teachers involved told us about some interesting findings regarding one-to-one time.
“Teachers reported that this approach (MALL) enabled a level of teacher-student interaction that is not normally always possible and so the project improved the ability of teachers to assess their students directly.”
MALL Project Report, The Le@rning Federation
“The most interesting finding, I would say, was students commenting on the challenging and authentic aspect of tackling listening and speaking in this more 'realistic' way. That made me re-think how we teach listening and speaking.”
Valérie Demouy, Dept. of Languages Open University
“Teachers also welcomed the facility to listen to each student’s conversation as they were better able to identify individual difficulties with the language, vocabulary or understanding.”
MALL Project Report, The Le@rning Federation
“In mainstream we don't have that much time so this is a wonderful opportunity for the students to continue learning and to do it in their own time and to acquire those very important macro skills.”
Lana Van Den Berg, ESL Coordinator, Citipointe Christian College, Australia.
“The Greater Number of corrected tests per students – amounting to increased feedback to the students on their spoken responses to the questions – the greater the anticipated improvement.”
MALL Project Report, The Le@rning Federation
“…it was also way better to hear a students’ work without class noise and other distractions. Very easy to pick up more mistakes and common errors than when in a normal class situation.”
“Conversation skills improved, group work was more cohesive and peer teaching was more meaningful. There was greater purpose to learning language.”
MALL Project Report, The Le@rning Federation
“Teachers were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about this approach (MALL) as they believed that listening and speaking are the main aims for any language student.”
MALL Project Report, The Le@rning Federation
“Teachers mentioned how it was easy to pick up on recurring mistakes across student recordings which could easily be addressed in class. It was then possible to follow through to ensure that their point of note carried into students' future production.
...this usually wouldn't be as feasbile in a finite class period, as students wouldn't have as much opportunity to 'talk' individually and be observed by the teacher.”
NCCA FÓN, Project Report
“It’s nice to hear students you wouldn’t usually hear too much in class talking on the recordings.”
Teacher, NCCA MALL Project, NCCA 2007 Annual Report
“the potential to offer a more natural conversation approach ... getting closer to a reviewable real-time role-playing model than previously.”
