Learnosity Voice - Spoken Language Learning
Teaching of spoken language skills is difficult. There are many constraints to student learning:
- Teachers only have a very limited amount of time to spend with each student in one-on-one scenarios
- There is limited ability to 'record and review' for the benefit of both student and teacher
- Students do not have the ability to review their conversations with teachers
The Learnosity Voice language learning system addresses these issues. The system is comprised of the following tools:
- Voice Response
- Voice Chat (Student to Student Conferences)
- Voice Chat (Student to Teacher Language Conferences)
- SMS For Vocabulary Learning
- Aural Multiple Choice for Language Learning
- Text-Chat Application (Web based)
The introduction of these new Learnosity tools will provide the dedicated teachers important tools to do the following:
- Assess spoken language abilities in students
- Assist in the teaching and learning of spoken languages
- Facilitate in peer-to-peer learning between students
Students use their own phones to dial a local phone number to access the application. Local numbers are available in 46 countries. They can then login using a student number and PIN.
Why use a Mobile Phone?
We could have used computers and microphones for these applications, but there are number of reasons we chose to use mobile phones.
- Phones are built for speaking and listening.
- There is no learning curve, technical support, installation etc. It just works.
- Teachers don't have to book computer or language labs, students just take out their phones and dial in.
- Almost every single student will already have a mobile phone.
Benefits
- Practice and assessment of Oral and Aural skills
- Allows teachers and students in geographically diverse places to work together
- Efficient and effective use of teaching resources
